360hiphop will launch soon. Looks like the flux capacitors aren't holding that hip hop charge. It would be better to wait and get it done right, rather than launch broken in the typical fashion of Kioken sites. They are working around to clock to bring it up.
That's actually surprising since they're using the same design that they tried to push on former client Volume.com a few months back. A under whelming dated flash movie was placed there as a placebo until the site launch. We aren't easily offended, but unjustified expletives in the flash intro didn't make it any cooler. It was just written and executed badly. It reminds us of going to Mars 2112. Hopefully the future will be cooler than this.
Content: Articles written by Bobbito rambling on about nothing. (Did Stretch leave you of that deal too? Will Buddha ever stop crying about it?) Stories about Kelis test driving a hummer in Harlem will keep you enraptured. Small, fuzzy video clips of Snoop Dog sitting in a chair. Kris Ex even threw in an old story Ronin Ro wrote even though he asked him to leave.
Commerce: Won't launch with site. A large oversight in strategy; the commerce section should always go up first and build the rest of the site around that.
Interactive: This is where games , contests, chats and boards are all lumped together.
What's the word: A crossword puzzle with clues peppered with small ads for coke and LL cool J. Hip Hop and crossword puzzles. Who knew?
Lyrical Graffiti: They give you 10 words and you have to make a rhyme out of it. You vote on people's submissions and you can win a prize if you get top ranking. For those who can spit lovely, here are some actual word sets it gives you.

I wasn't able to fully access the site; just got gibberish that others here have already commented on. If they are postponing the launch, I wished that they had given their future consumer base a headz up.
Russell was on CNN and Hot 97 today trumpeting 360's arrival. I was hoping they had already worked out most of the kinks. Guess not.
I hope they get it right though. I have a lot of respect for Sel, Kris and Kierna.
While the haters here may disagree, this is a talented trio.

360hiphop has some serious glitches. I can't believe they came with it when they weren't ready. I don't even want to go back. I want hip-hop, not space travel or training missions. By the way, Urbanexpose doesn't work all that well on macs either. But I couldn't get 360 up on my PC at all...it just kept spinning. I really hate flash and don't understand the appeal at all. It is the definition of style with no substance.

Everyone fightin' over AKA, UBO, and 360...I think the best sites for news are EURweb.com (been doin' it well for years), SOHH.com (even if it is UBO now), manhunt.com (jacks everybody so you get it all), and the411online.com (too much hip-pop, not enough underground). Hello, everyone. This Ronin Ro. I hope everyone has seen yesterday's Soulpurpose newsletter (6/19/00). I am not the person responsible for this site nor for various attacks linked to my name. I also have nothing to do with 360hiphop.com. I did at one point, but Kris Ex apparently did not want me there (after asking me to leave a well-paying job at a rival company) and that resulted in my being asked to leave (in my opinion) without cause; and it's a shame that my name is mentioned on urban expose in connection with a site I was asked to leave for no discernable reason. While I wish 360hiphop the best of luck, I have nothing to do with the site. Moreover, the Public Enemy idea (which I felt was tired and trendy while I was doing it, was handed to me by Kris Ex-- this was not my idea.) Again, no offense, but 360 does not represent my views or approach to hiphop culture and coverage. Not that 360's results aren't intelligent and cutting edge, because they are. I simply want to clarify that I have nothing to do with the site. So please don't construe this as an insult. It's merely clarifying matters. |

Reason why none of these urban sites will ever work, just like those white boy failures, DEN & artist direct: ex-record company employees. Record company employees rely on payola to make their wack shit look great (by buying radio airplay from wack ass PDs). Unfortunately no one plays middleman in the internet business. The content goes straight to the consumer. No payola money can buy the hype, and force-feed people to look at your site all day. You can hire a street team (read: hookt) to plaster your name all over town to stroke your own dicks, but how these homeless posterboys can figure out what spots to hit? who knows! I guess they'll hit Speed, cause that's the only place they know to promote anything. Why promote where literacy rate is in single digits, and cats spend more money on bottles of Cristals than an average cost of a new computer system. Urban internet companies need to check themselves and figure out who the consumer is and what they want. So far, there's no "franchise" in the internet for a DJ-owned company to charge $30K a month for a guaranteed exposure through street promotion.

the funny thing about this is that everyone is hating on everyone, but no one is recognizing that while we're pulling each other down, and spreading ourselves thin -- the suits at MTV are just fine with it -- cause they blowin' it up. They're hiring the internet savvy black execs who left all this drama back in college, and those execs are getting paid to make urban culture more appealing to the folks who spend the $$$ -- white America. They'll get the $150,000 salary and a couple options but in the end it's the white haired jewish guy who's making the $$ -- cause MTv's traffic goes up, which allows them spin off the group into MTVi -- Wall Street loves high traffic site, that appeals to the young white america. Investors pour money into MTVi, Viacom flips some of it's shares, makes a nice profit. And everyone gets rich -- everyone except the folks us. We're here HATING and content with it.
So as another day begins, we as african americans will continue to hate, and continue to be left behind, and continue to be happy about it. No wonder they screwed us out of our 4 acres and the mule -- we were probbaly hating on each other back then -- that they just said fvck it -- they won't miss it anyway.

you also gotta understand "real deal", it took HipHop Site.com, and Platform a while to build up an audience.

360, UBO and all the other sites have the same potential if they realize that Macromedia does not make the site--

Hiring a bunch of magazine writers dont mean shit if their ears arent to the street and they are more

I think the greatest service that this site has given is showing how many truly ignorant people there are working and running this urban new media space. If you read the short pieces on this site it may be a little tongue in cheek but none go over the line and are filled with lies. If anything they have a lot of truth to them, sort of a Chris Rock quality in reporting .
I personally find it disappointing after so many known black people have shown their ENTIRE asses on this site, now have to turn around and blame "THE MAN" for starting all the trouble. I've been checking out this site for a while and I must admit I was scared to post anything because I'm a new comer to this game. and my knowledge about running a internet company is limited, so I felt I shouldn't talk about anyone that's doing when I'm not. I'm a student @ parsons school of design. I currently work for a web development company which doesn't deal with urban related content. I get a lot of good offers from many different start up companies for web design. and oh yeah I'm black *LOL* so I guess some people see me as a important person because I grew up in the "Urban Culture" and I know the technology. I see this site as a way for us to discuss important issues that affect us on the web. when i say "us" I mean everyone white & black. I see a lot of teasing and cursing out going on, and it's not cool. I think about going over to on of these companies, but of course there is great risk involved with working @ any of these companies so I love to freelance and give people good design! anyway I would like to see heads build on some real issues. forget all that gay homo stuff! millions of users are depending on us to give them some real content or take their money! you decide what you want out of this game.

The media industry looks real appealling from the outside, and
depending on who you roll with-it can be..

but it appears that regardless of what is looks like, what content it does or doesn't have, the bottom line is that KIOKEN should allocate at least an extra 2 weeks (& 40K)for proper QA TESTING!!! (cross-platform, cross-browser, and across a 28.8 dialup to ensure that EVERYONE can see it) -- Keep in mind, most people outside the US don't have speedy internet connections due to US Trade restrictions, etc.)
Maybe next time they should hire a REAL agency that won't take sh*t from people that have never BUILT a website.

Now that’s something to hate, instead of some people I don’t even know. I don’t trust computers. I always think that somehow the government can see what I’m doing or what my friends are emailing me. Not that my emails are that weird, only little chain letter notes that my grandmother sends from New Orleans because she’s bored sitting in her house with no air conditioning. UBO is the number one site because of the colors, 360 hiphop is number two because I don't like the people over there too much and I read that several people were upset about how it looked when it launched, the speaker H for Hookt is really corny looking and I don't like the way the speakers hump (they make me sick). And Mario Van Peebles site is omnipotent because he can just design things around that Solo movie and people will log on incessantly. I also like www.charged.com. It is good. But even better is www.tunamelt.net. All the other sites will crash and be out of business soon. Mark my words. I have a lot of experience that relates to new urban media and the internet.I'm kind of like cyber yoda. While SoulPurpose has a lot of errors and bugs, they do show a
lot of promise, some decent writing. I hope they are able to work

Yo! the 360hiphop site is hot to death, I have yet to see the type of content that exists on 360 on any other site. I think the site is pretty easy to navigate except for the various subject homepages and their specific stories, and it is visually pleasing, those kioken designers are john blaze. I really need to hire them to design my site. I connected on my 56k modem and explored all the Ipix flics and peeped the video flics and thought it was hot It didn't crash my shit as I expected, granted the site could use some tighting but, hey it's only the beginning for the "dream team"........ |
Just spent the morning on 360 and I was pleasantly surprised. It raises the playing field for other urban sites with its graphics and look.Love the ipix features especially the virtual tour of the Luke dancers asses. Not everything on the site was working yet but I hear from someone who has seen it that the Diallo piece is the bomb. Can't wait till they get the bugs out so I can check it.All the playahaters flaming on here need to chill. Don't be afraid of competition-it raises the bar for everyone and makes people work harder,hopefully improving the quality across the board. 360hiphop.com is not an original site. It is a cheap rip off of one of its many rivals hookt.com. It uses the exact same format and it even has many of the same options. Russel Simmons should be thanking hookt for all the ideas of theirs that he used.
Much props to Russel Simmons for managing to compete with his competitors by his name rather then his product. He thinks that if he has the exact same shit as other people his name will put him over the top. Fuck that. There's plenty of sites above this one.
One other thing: not all of us are blessed with a T1 connection, they need to speed the loading process up. I like to go downstairs and get some things to eat while I wait for each page to download. This site is good at one time in the day. That is at about 1 o'clock at night when the traffic isn't busy and the fucker still isn't that fast.
The sight gets frustrating with little errors nothing real big but enough for me to get fired up and write this letter to all the readers. There is information on totally weird shit that really are only somewhat relevant to hip hop. The stories are researched with opinion based information. The stories are well written but really leaves the reader with the feel of "where the fuck did this shit come from?"

HIP-hop impresario Russell Simmons' media empire just took another beating.
After having had to completely revamp his faltering One World magazine, Simmons has lost control of his TV show, "Russell Simmons' One World Music Beat," after a fight with African Heritage Network, the syndication company that owns rights to the show.
AHN, which says appearances by Simmons' model wife made the show unwatchable, has teamed up with One World's rappin' rivals at The Source magazine, and is changing the show's title to "Source All Access" while keeping a similar format.
The trouble started in December when AHN first started negotiating to buy the show, which aired on the WB network, from its original producers at Warner Brothers.
"It looked great on the outside, but Russell has a different agenda," AHN chairman Frank Mercado-Valdes told PAGE SIX. "He put his wife Kimora Lee on, and the ratings were down. He wanted creative control and the name changed to ‘360 Hip Hop.'"
Mercado-Valdes balked, saying Lee made a lousy host and Simmons was trying to turn the show into an infomercial for his new Internet portal, 360 Hip Hop. "He offered us a tiny investment in 360, and we said no," Mercado-Valdes says. The WB stopped producing new episodes a couple of months ago, and AHN bought the rights last week, turning it into a showcase for The Source instead.
That's when things got nasty between Mercado-Valdes and Simmons, and their lawyers. Simmons claimed AHN had breached a good-faith agreement, stating guests only agreed to appear on the show out of loyalty and friendship to him.
Mercado-Valdes fired back with a letter to Simmons and his lawyer Susan Povich last week, stating, "Your proposal is a complete joke that I am sure no reasonable television distributor would entertain."
In a faxed statement, Simmons said that Lee, who is devoting her time to his Baby Phat clothing line, had not worked on the show for over a year, and, "360HipHop.com has been in discussons with other players and we expect to announce a deal soon."
"Source All Access" will air in September on NBC after "Showtime at the Apollo." Meanwhile, One World publisher John Pasmore says he's "re-positioning" the magazine and planning a title change. Simmons says it's been sold to Urban Box Office and he's no longer involved. |

Well, since we all know that 360 is run by majority homos, the only new thing to say is that: Where are the fucking journalists? Do they think Black folks can't read; not only is the site non-navigational after being up more than two weeks, it is staid, the photos are dry and as empty editorially as BET (although we know Russell's folks are paid a whole lot more). Russell: Hire some journalists, stop bull shitting and keep Kimora away; Selwyn: It takes more than just looking good to be an adequate leader; Sheena: Girl, get an education; Jazzbo: No one gives a fuck about b-box or whatever the fuck; Kris: Don't cross over, no matter how much he pays you and man, get an education -- The site will unfortunately close soon; there is minimal talent there...waste of investors time and money...They boasted of a dream team editorially -- now, the dream team has turned into a nigthmare.
