| Site Roll-Up On The Hookt; Will Buyers Bite? |
Hookt is in the process of acquiring Platform and some assets of AKA. Using the same strategy Chas uses to squeeze his bulk into his brand-new green Porsche, Hookt will squeeze all 3 companies assets into their warehouse location in the city. Evidently, they are trying a roll-up strategy to make a hip-hop network that someone will acquire. Is there anyone in the market to acquire a low traffic, high maintenance web property with no buzz?

| The Ultimate Raise: TheSource On Sale By David Mays |
Media mogul David Mays has retained Morgan Stanley to put TheSource entertainment on the selling block. The price: A tidy sum of $100 million. TheSource entertainment consists of hip-hop themed high circulation magazines, an annual award show, and two weekly television properties that use the African Heritage Network for broadcast time. The magazine arguably controls most of urban fashion and music print advertising dollars. Who is going to buy it and what does that mean for other urban properties?

| Urban Cool Has Nothing To Crow About. |
Representing the dirty south is urbancool.com. It is the first and only urban portal to make an aggressive run for the IPO market. It probably is the most expensive urban portal that no one knows about. They choose as a mascot "Bebe", a scruffy black crow with some beat up converse and blue eyes. An urban site based in Texas using "Jim Crowe" for promotions? Who runs this site?

| How Tragic Will the Internet Be For UrbanMagic? |
Earlier this year the press became very excited when Earvin Magic Johnson announced that he would launch a well funded urban lifestyle/entertainment web property with inexperienced executives. With no new ideas, technology or content Magic declared that he would capture the urban Internet audience using the power of his name. The website is called UrbanMagic.com, a clever hybrid derived by tacking the word urban onto his nickname. It sounds more like a low-budget version of David Blaine's act then a web-based business.

| Impact 24/7 Gets Better! Can't Say the Same for Soul Purpose Newsletter. |
Soul Purpose newsletter has steadily gotten worse, if such a thing was possible, proving that James Andrews can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Perhaps the problem is that as they make the push to become daily; they are realizing that Mr. Andrews has nothing to say. The level of content seems to be aimed more at transit workers than "tastemakers" (whatever THAT is…). Needless to say, David Mohammed's phone is not ringing off the hook.

| Russell Sells Outs, Tells Employees Get The Hell Out. |
Seems like the Dream Team has lost steam and cream. More then 30% of the staff of 360hiphop is being let go this morning in effort to ensure a smooth transition during the BET acquisition. Internet access has been turned off for most employees who are being downsized. The content and marketing people will continue to write articles no one reads and market a site no one visits, for the time being.

| Toons Called Cutting Edge, Cross The Ledge |
Online flash cartoons have gotten really popular. There are so many out there these days that it is difficult to stand out among all the competitors. Developers push the envelope to attract attention. Unfortunately, cutting edge is often used as a euphemism for perpetuating racial stereotypes.

| No More Grapes of Wrath. TheSource Fires Whole Online Staff. |
TheSource fired its 8-person online division last week in a vote of no confidence from David Mays. TheSource.com, which was supposed to debut the same day as the televised Source Awards, launched late without much fanfare. Even after showing the uncensored fight scenes from the Source Awards via the site response was at best lukewarm. How come the number one hip-hop magazine was not able to translate its success online?
